A rather short trip to Miami and Houston (3 days in Miami and 6 days in Houston), and some of the time was spent on Thanksgiving dinner and eating-outs. But we did squeeze out some time to go to a few places.
Sunset in the ‘Glades:
Miami skyline from Matheson Hammock State Park:
Cape Florida Lighthouse:
Biscayne Bay from the hotel balcony:
A few birds from Florida — a Purple Gallinule in Everglades National Park:
A Tricolored Heron in Everglades National Park:
White ibis at Matheson Hammock State Park:
A manatee swimming in the Biscayne Bay:
Then on to Houston …
St. Bernard National Wildlife Refuge:
The Gulf of Mexico — America’s “Third Coast”, from Quintana Beach in Freeport:
Surfside Beach in Freeport:
The Freeport Jetty — where Kenn Kaufman famously lost a telescope at the end of his “big year” (incidentally, I finished reading his book just the day before I went to the jetty, a fitting homage for this trip):
Least Sandpiper (at St. Bernard National Wildlife Refuge):
Dunlin (at Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge):
Willet (at Quintana Beach):
Black-bellied Whistling Ducks (at Brazos Bend State Park):
